Cauterets is in the very heart of the magnificent Pyrenees and is an area of outstanding natural beauty; and being on the edge of of the Pyrenees National Park, is well known in France for its many amazing hikes and walks in the summer and as a ski resort in the winter with its impressive runs. It also has its renowned Spa, known for its health benefits and cures as well as beauty treatments.

If so, it is important not to underestimate your location and address. A few kilometres in the wrong direction will make all the difference to the success of your business.

Firstly, it is situated on a tranquil hillside location where you and your customers can escape the hustle and bustle of the towns and relax in the amazing scenery and atmosphere in one of the premier valleys in the Hautes Pyrenees.

Secondly, despite its idyllic spot, “Les Ruisseaux” is on the only only road into Cauterets; one of the most prestigious tourist, Spa and Ski Resorts in the Pyrenees.

“Les Ruisseaux” is an established and very popular bed and breakfast and is one of only three in Cauterets; and the first as you enter the community. The current business benefits from the annual influx of holiday makers; in the winter for skiing and in the summer for walking and hiking. We are actively advertised by the Cauterets tourist office and more importantly are listed (for a small fee) on the Cauterets website.
 

All of this means that holiday makers come to this area, actively searching for accommodation and consequently, rooms are filled at peak seasons both in winter and summer with only a minimum of paid publicity and effort. We are also listed in Gites de France “Charmance” category and mentioned in the the Michelin Green Guide.

Here are a few pointers as to our location:-
 

•  10 minutes drive to Cauterets town centre, a busy mountain town with its Spa, Ski Station, shops, restaurants, bars and cafe's.

•  20 minutes drive to the Pont d'Espagne, start of the Pyrenees National Park which is very popular with hikers, walkers and cross country skiers.

•  30 minutes drive to Gavarnie - a UNESCO world heritage site.

•  20 minutes drive to Lourdes which is one of the most important Religious sites in the world. It has its own airport with Ryanair operating a route to London Stansted in winter (December to April).

•  1 hour from Pau - a large and fun University city with an established air service to London Stansted.

•  1 hour 40 minutes to Toulouse, an important French city with air services to London Gatwick with BA and Easyjet as well as services to locations worldwide. Also train services throughout France and a direct service to Lourdes several times a day.

•  2½ hours from Biarritz and 4 hours Bordeaux both with well served international airports.
   

There is an infant school at Cauterets, and a secondary school in Pierrefitte-Nestelas which is a 5 minute drive down the valley from the house, as well as a doctor, post office and a number of local shops. Larger shops, supermarkets and chain stores can be found a short distance away in the pretty market town
of Argeles-Gazost, as well as in Lourdes and Tarbes.

The locals in the area are very friendly, and we have made several friends. There is a small expat community here (some with children) who are very helpful and will be happy to give you lots of advice to help you settle in, if you want them to.
